Hello, and welcome to the online home of the Carmelite Friars, Province of Saint Elias!

In 1889, a group of Carmelite priests arrived in New York City from Ireland and founded the community that would eventually become our Province. Ever since that time, we’ve dedicated ourselves to prayer and to physical and spiritual service.

We maintain the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and staff several parishes. Carmelites from our Province can be found in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, and serving in chaplain roles. We also have very fruitful overseas foundations in Vietnam and Trinidad.

On this web site, you can learn more about our Carmelite spirituality and ministries. You can also interact with us by sending us intentions you’d like us to pray for, requesting greeting and enrollment cards which carry special Mass remembrances, and selecting spiritual gift items. Please look around!

Thank you and God bless you for your interest in our ministries.

Father Michael Driscoll, O.Carm.

Our Mission as Carmelites

In active ministry and in contemplative prayer, Carmelites strive to bring the presence of God into the lives of all people. We respond to the physical and spiritual hunger in the world by walking among God’s people, announcing His presence, and denouncing oppression in all its terrible forms.

Carmelites promote the well-being of our human family by serving them in parishes and schools. As chaplains and spiritual directors, we help people heal. Carmelites bridge the gap between the physical and spiritual needs in our brothers and sisters in Christ.
